Through our diverse activities, the Mori Art Museum endeavors to provide an accessible platform for artists and audiences from all generations and backgrounds to create and enjoy the best in contemporary culture. In addition to the three large scale exhibitions we hold each year, we have always believed that the work we do introducing talented young artists from around the world is an important part of our activities.
Since our museum opened in 2003, we have held the MAM Project series of solo exhibitions for up-and-coming artists. So far we have held 11 such exhibitions (as of 1 May, 2010). With each exhibition we have show cased the new work commissioned for the exhibition also published a catalog documenting the featured artist's work to date.
“Since the 1990s, the growth of the global village and the expansion of multiculturalism, which has affected the art world as much as any other field, has meant that from our geographic position in the Far East, we are able to gain knowledge of the world’s cultures, history and society through contemporary art. The Mori Art Museum’s support of exciting artists who are gaining attention not only in North America and Europe, but everywhere else, from the rest of Asia to Northern and Eastern Europe provides Tokyo with an opportunity to connect with the world and keep abreast of the latest creative energy the world has to offer.” (Kataoka Mami, Chief Curator, Mori Art Museum)
Now, in order to continue seeking out the best young artists in Japan and abroad, and in order to provide them with a range of opportunities, including exhibitions and more, the Mori Art Museum has created the Young Artist Support Program.
This letter is an invitation to you to participate in this program and thereby join with us in supporting young artists.
The details of our new Young Artist Support Program are below. Monetary support provided to this program will be used for nurturing the careers of young artists through the conducting of research, the planning of exhibitions and the funding of new artworks. We hope very much you will consider becoming a Supporter and contribute to the development and the future of contemporary art. |
